That's the message one of Marilyn Manson's good friends gave him when he started dating the "Charmed" actress back in the late '90s -- and it sparked a rumored feud between the rocker and his bud."I [recently] ran into Billy [Corgan, of Smashing Pumpkins] and a lot of people think there was some kind of falling out," Manson tells Esquire."It was mostly that he wrote a strongly worded letter about how Rose Mc Gowan would ruin my life and ruin my career if I stayed with her, which was good advice, and he wrote it as a letter, which is very polite."It's hard to tell if Manson's being sarcastic about that "good advice" quip, as the two rarely talk about their time together ...I immersed myself in it and then completely disregarded it.Hopefully it tied together and fans won't be too mad at me. Before someone becomes, say, "evil," there are usually a lot of reasons that go into it.Mc Gowan: No, I was lucky because it was an origin story, so it's how she got to how she is now. That's sometimes the most fun about playing a villain.Rose Mc Gowan is a fantastic actress and her charismatic personality and superb talent has made her who she is today. Her personal life has not been as perfect as her and her career. She was dating her boyfriend Davey Detail before the couple decided to get married and live happily as husband and wife.
Were there aspects to the character that you knew you had to make sure to highlight or include? Mc Gowan: The thing with how Barbara plays the character -- she's such a tremendous actress -- is that she really relishes her villainy, if you will.
She came to notoriety for her seductive pin-up girl looks, her salacious romance with Marilyn Manson and risqué media stance that landed her the title of both sex symbol and wild child.
The actress had an atypical upbringing; born into a sect of the Children of God Cult, headed up by her father, that enforced a mixture of ideologies from free-love to the second coming of Christ.
In her own words: I tried to make their idea of the small thing I was allowed to be better than what it was. I always thought, ‘God, if someone actually gave me a three dimensional part I could knock the hell out of this.
But as it is, I’m trying to bring you, you shmuck, to home base.
